Another Season Comes to an End

While the weather seems like it will be reasonable this week, we are going to call it a season on Men's Night. This past Wednesday was the final night.

After two weeks of cancellations due to weather and low numbers, we hit 10 golfers on the nose on Wednesday. That is the minimum requirement. After checking with some regulars who aren't connected to farming or agriculture, it was very unlikely that we would have enough players this week.

That being said, if anyone wants to golf for fun this Wednesday, send a text out. A 5:00 pm start would be ideal given the declining daylight.

Prior to doing a summary of the season, I will provide a brief update from this past week.

Skins went on four holes. Winners included Ryden Lanouette/Cohen Koroscil ($94.38 on #2), Dave Mansell/Pete Ostash ($20.00 on #7), Joel Ostash/Wes Arnfinson ($20.00 on #8), and Jason Gorrell/Darcy Kowalchuk ($20.00 on #9).

Ryden had the low round with a 37 and was also was closest on #5. The high round was 51 and no one hit the green on #9. Gorrell had the solo deuce, good for $18.75.

So now for a quick recap of the season:

  • We opened the season on May 13 and closed on September 30.
  • Of those 21 Wednesdays, we had three cancellations, the two recent ones and July 1 in the middle of that historic stretch of rain.
  • Phil Ostash completed the rare double, winning both the Ringer Board and the season money list. Since we started tracking in 2013, this has only been accomplished once before, in 2021, by Scott Maynes.
  • Matt Ostash lit up the course on August 5 with an incredible 33 (the lowest recorded score of the season).
  • August 5 saw one of the biggest scoring spreads of the year, spanning from Matt Ostash's 33 to a high round of 55.
  • Late July marked a major milestone as players finally said goodbye to temporary greens and transitioned back to putting on regular greens.
  • On July 15, a record 7 skins were paid out in a single evening among 22 golfers, featuring impressive matching birdies on holes #1, #6, and #7.
  • After roughly two months of temporary greens caused by early-season turf work, players officially returned to regular putting surfaces on July 22.
  • Riley Swereda had the low round three times, including two 34s.
  • On August 12, Joel Ostash and Vern Snyder divided a massive $288.76 deuce pot.
  • On July 29, 25 brave golfers played in 31°C heat with a humidex of 41°C—so hot that even the mosquitoes stayed in the shade.
  • Father-and-son duo Dave and Ryan Mansell teamed up to sweep matching skins on both hole #2 ($38.13) and hole #3 ($38.13) on July 29.
  • August 12 set a high-water mark for difficulty across the field, recording a middle score of 46.
  • The Clubhouse crew, including Francis, Nathan, Taylor, and Clara, was there each week to take care of our food and beverage needs.

While the weekly blog update records the final scores, skins, and deuce pots, the best parts of Wednesday evenings aren't always written down.

Whether playing alongside lifelong friends or sharing a round with new faces, it’s the camaraderie, the shared drinks, and simply spending a few hours together on the course that make Men's Night what it is every week. Here’s to another great summer in the books and to doing it all over again next spring.
